Just read of a small airplane crash at Mountain Air, the golf and airport
community located in the mountains of North Carolina that always advertises
in the various US flying magazines. I was always intrigued by this airstrip
but thought that the approach end of 14 there looked quite challanging, given
the proximity of the buildings and aircraft parking.

Witnesses stated that a single engine aircraft bounced on landing and lost
control, then hit two parked aircraft next to the runway. Three were killed.

Here is a recent picture of the airport:

When I was looking at places to live, I called Mountain Air to find out
more information. I was not interested after I found out that there are
no hangars or hangar homes there, nor is it feasible to have either.

It is a fly-in golf community, as opposed to a for-real residential
airpark. If you want a weekend golf getaway, Mountain Air might be for
you.
