Too bad there's no MS car simulator.

Does this mean that you're not going to be driving
any time soon? Or ever?

There is. midtown Madness.

One of his buddies obviously learned to drive using it.

There are quite a few car simulation programs out there, although I don't
think any of them are published by Microsoft.

Do you think anybody here cares about such an observation? Are
newsgroups your only social life?

Got me there. I really don't care about social misfits. In real face-
to-face interaction, very few would punch you out. Only your dog would
ever associate with you again.

Some people readily become violent when they are frustrated, and they are
easily frustrated.

Ever considered it might be you?

That you are non-violent is irrelevant.

Let me SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU. Ever considered it might be you - that is
frustrating to others around you?

You should.

Please don't cut out pertinent quoted text when replying.

They frustrate themselves, and they are a minority among those with whom I
interact.

June 4th 07, 02:54 PM
Quote: "Cars are more dangerous than airplanes."

Depends. A light airplane flown by a private pilot is about
four times more dangerous than a car, which isn't that bad, really,
considering that most of us spend very little time in light airplanes
and never have serious car accidents. A Commercially-rated pilot in a
properly-maintained light airplane presents about the same risk as a
car. An airliner flown by an ATR (or Canadian ATPL) is about 11 times
safer than a car.
So saying that flying is safer than driving is like
saying that dogs are friendly animals. It depends on the airplane type
and on who's operating it. The training and skill levels and company
safety policies probably have the biggest effect, and the redundant
systems of the airliner make it safer.
Those numbers come from an article I read about 20 years
ago. They likely haven't changed a lot. They SHOULD challenge the
Private pilot to study and improve his skills and knowledge. If he can
reach the same levels as a Commercial pilot (not such a big deal), he
improves his chances four times. Some people obsess about reducing
their chances of getting cancer, so they'll eat better and quit
smoking to cut their risks by 25 or 50%, but the average PPL isn't
aware of (or ignores) a chance to cut his flying risk by 75%.

Well, on here, they are in the vast majority. From your blog (which you
since pulled from your site - I can guess why) it was very apparent that in
real life, those frustrated with you (or rather, annoyed) are in the
majority, too.

No, no, I get frustrated alright. I don't get violent
when I'm frustrated. I do get violent when faced with
a mollusk in human form, though. Those soft, squishy
on the inside folk that really should be stepping up
more often.

Oooh. I jumped right to the assumption that. Right. Although,
I've cut myself pretty good with a plane, but not so much with
my car. And I use the car so much more than I use a plane, so
I would still have to argue that according to percentage-of-time,
a plane is still far more dangerous than a car.

In terms of noncommercial (or even commercial) use, I'd like to see a
statistic comparing boaters to pilots.

Did you get a chance see the PT boat and WWII-era LCI(L) in Portland last
week? There were a whole bunch of pre-1945 wooden boats tied up on the
Riverplace dock. The Spirit of Portland cruise ship came by with barely a
wake, and then a moment later some jackass in a Bayliner river cruiser
swooped by for a close look at the boats. Didn't even slow down. His wake
washed onto the dock, but more importantly, random dock visitors had to hold
off one boat that was tied up to keep its hull from grinding against the
wood. After the water settled you could see bits of wood floating around
where all the boats had bounced up against it.

I saw a commercial river towboat take off after him...I suspect to report
him to the Coast Guard, which had passed a few minutes earlier to bust some
other idiot.

Hardly. They're more dangerous than ever do to today's instant
gratification society: me first, **** you. No problem running somebody
off the road if it means waiting a second less.
