Hi all, I have just grudgingly put my Sisu on the market,
and the WingsandWheels ad should be on tomorrow or
so. I have cut and pasted the ad I submitted though,
complete with links to detailed pictures and history.
It makes me very sad to let her go, but I am trying
to generate cash for another ship and I can't afford
them both : ( If interested, contact me direct
through my info at the botom so as to not muck up r.a.s
with this nonsense. Below is my ad:
Sisu 1A
Own a Legend! 1962 Sisu 1A, s/n 101, N6390X. 1228hrs,
50hrs SMOH/refinish, completed by Applebay. Basic instruments
include PZL vario and airspeed, in kts, Airpath compass,
United altimeter, recently overhauled 2-1/4' Bendix
G-meter; MH oxy guage (oxy system needs to be reinstalled).
All plumbed with color coded tubing to a Winter quick
disconnect, and will also include a Bogelt B-100 flight
computer/vario (not installed yet). Has a dorsal TE
and comes with two spare panels, one for display complete
with authentic instruments (original Sisu altimeter)
from when Johnson raced it in the 63 worlds in Argentina,
as well as his oxy setup ( both easily removable to
switch to flying mode). Finished with Johnson's distinctive
markings from that race, as it appeared in most publications.
Very nicely rebuilt Niemi trailer, with double epoxy
coated 1/2' Finnish birch floor with flush metal sandwiched
butt joints, and all hardware in stainless (inc chains
and shackles). New 3500# drop axle and electic brakes,
fresh rubber and spare wheel, great wiring and breakaway
battery. Ship was first owned by Gleb Derujinski, then
Wally Scott. Flown by many of the top pilots from back
in the day including Moffat, who flew it while writing
Winning on the Wind and used the data to write the
chapter comparing different metal ships. Has Johnson's
and Moffat's autographs inside the turtledeck, and
will also have Derujinski's very soon. Featured in
a great many books and magazines, including Marin Simons
'Sailplanes 1945-1965:, pg 208 and two 'Soaring' covers
(June 63, and Feb 96). More pictures can be found here
found here: http://www.eaglebrandproducts.com/N6390X/
as well as a brief overview of N6390X's rich history.
Furthermore, here is a writeup from the NASM about
their Sisu 1a (s/n 102), which was the first sailplane
in the world to achieve a 1000k flight: http://www.nasm.si.edu/res
earch/aero/aircraft/arlington.htm Ship available for
delivery/pickup after Oshkosh, where it will be proudly
on display at the SSA booth.
$28,500
