Not trying to be rude here - but would 300-350kg sitting on the ramp like
that, be felt in the cockpit as a trim issue ?

Self correcting.

Lotsa nose up, ramp dudes walk home, trim adjusted.

Notice the rather BIG guy sitting in the middle.... Yeah they probably felt
it with him back there.... HA HA..
Just kidding. I took that photo last summer.

The AFCS system is pretty darn good on the CH-47, I doubt the pilots feel
anything at all, Lateral Trim is automatic (can be manual) and the Flight
Engineers /
Crew Chiefs walk around in the cabin frequently.

There are balance issues with Center of Gravity... but the ramp itself can
hold 2000 lbs.

Once again, thanks Paul.

Just trying to be tactful - as a chubby guy myself ....

I suppose trim adjustment would have to be fairly automatic, if you're
going to offload pallets of stores or paratroops in flight (especially the
fat ones).

Paul, thanks for posting and thanks for serving.
I watched a PBS program last night that featured a Kansas Army Guard
CH-47 unit's deployment to Pakistan and Afganistan.
Impressive!

Here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area (southern Arlington), I grew up listening
to the "wump wump wump" as a gaggle of Chenooks would fly the southern route
from Dallas NAS to Carswell AFB. If I am not mistaken, the Chenook is
scheduled for retirement is it not? I still live in the same local and
still hear the occational "wump wump wump". I will miss that sound when the
time comes.

Sorry Retirement is not in the cards for this big workhourse.... you will be
hearing them for a long time yet...

The D model CH-47's NOW flying are being rebuilt into F models back at the
Boeing Plant in PA...
All Currently flying D models WILL be refurbished into either a CH-47F or
MH-47G models.
By 2013 all CH-47's in the Army will be F models. They are expected to fly
until 2030...
