The largest thermonuclear bomb ever built has been placed at the SAC
monument site under construction at NAS Fort Worth JRB.
This move brings the monument site near to completion with only bricklaying
and one plaque remaining.
The monument team needs to sell only 50 more bricks to purchase and install
one additional plaque. If you would like to help, see www.sacmonument.org
for details.

Now that is big! I guess the Mk17 might have been a little too large for
Slim Pickens to saddle for his ride to glory :)

I'm not sure about that. It was from the right time period.

Actually, the Mk 17 bomb is not the largest TN bomb ever built. That
dubious honor belongs to the Russians' "Tsar Bomba" of 1961.
See: http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Russia/TsarBomba.html
It had a yield of some 50 MT and was dropped, via parachutes, from a
modified Bear bomber.

It appears the Tsar Bomba was not operational nor deployed, more of a
"doomsday" device.

It was actually an instrument of Soviet propaganda and implied terror.
It did, however, create the largest manmade detonation and sound in
history when it was tested.
According to the website, it stuck out of the Bear's belly and seriously
reduced its range.

How did we end up with the Soviet Tsar Bomba? Surely it was destroyed in the
one and only test?
