You have to wonder what 5 planes was this AD-1 lucky enough to get the jump
on?

The markings are just window dressing.
1) I don't think any AD-1's were in combat. I think 09257 was first issued
to VF-54, and reassigned for use as a trainer aircraft.
2) VA-115 first had AD-2's, and then went to Korea with AD-4's.
3) As far as I can find, the AD aircraft only had 3 kills. A USMC AD-4 shot
down a PO-2 in Korea. In 1966 an A1-H (AD-6) from VA-25, and another one
from VA-176, each shot down a Mig-17 ( not in the same fight).
4) The owner of 09257 has named the aircraft "Sincerely Sandy". I don't ever
remember any of our AD's being called anything but Spad's and Skyraider's. I
think the Air Force is the only one who called the AD a Sandy.

The Air Force flew Sandys. The Navy flew Skyraiders and Spads.
Watched 4 Sandys napalm a NVN village out of existence. Thank you very much
USAF.
Spent 71 days in that village as a guest of their hotel.
