ROFL. Dang, a joke that obvious should be as old as the hills, old as
Dudley, perhaps. But I never heard it before.

Now we know the date... what was the year? Is it true there were pteradactyls
in the pattern when you soloed? <G>

Well, there IS this sort of folk lore story on the net about the time I
attended a Cub Scout meeting as a guest to address the scouts and answer
questions about flying. After my little "speech", one small fellow in
the back raised his hand and when I called on him, he asked me what
Wilber and Orville Wright were REALLY like :-))

Couldn't have been Al. A lot of the animals of that period ended up
preserved in oil associated strata. Al NEVER would have had ANYTHING to
do with THAT!!

On a serious note, that sort of thing can be a handy mnemonic tool. For
example, I found that I could remember my Father's and my Sister's birthdays
by associating the fact that hers was three days earlier with the
preposterous assertion that she was therefore three days older.

Feel free to laugh all you want. Just remember that GUMP is also silly--but
it works.

Hi Orval;
Thank you. Janet was just here this week. In fact we just put her
on the plane to return to Ormond Beach this morning. We'll
probably not be down this year but thanks much for the invite.
The Rocket sounds like fun. Not sure if Pop Johnson designed the
Culver Cadet, but I flew one years ago and remember his name
being mentioned at the time.
I loved the old airplanes. Even flew a Mooney Mite several times.
Nearly everyone who gets a chance to fly one of these "old
critters" marvels at their performance compared to the more
"modern" spam cans :-)
Anyway, have a great summer down at Spruce Creek.

The story is that Pop either worked for Culver or had a dealership and
that he took one apart, measured everything, made some changes and built
the first Swift (the all-wood GC-1).

When he lost control of Swift, he took the GC-1 home and 60 days later
he came out with the Rocket 125, a taildragger with retractable
tailwheel.

He then came out with the Rocket 185, completely redesigned and half
again more horsepower. I think that the Mooney brothers had a hand in
the design, as they did with Pop's later creations.

The Rocket 185 is a great flyer, with nice, fingertip control and decent
performance.

My dad claims it's the wonderful bowel movements he has every morning. With any
luck, he wakes up first. <G>

That's another definition: You're staggering around and slobbering all over

Believe it or not I actually had someone on Usenet once tell me that I
wasn't Dudley Henriques
because HE knew Dudley Henriques and knew where Dudley Henriques was.
My wife answered him asking him to please send the real Dudley Henriques
home because the one she had been living with for forty odd years was a real
pain in the ass who didn't like to do yard work!

That sounds like something my wife did to a co-worker who answered the
phone at work:

Co-worker: "Is this his wife or his girl friend?"

Wife: "HE never told me he was married!"

Co-worler: shrink!
