Greetings all,

Thought I'd pass on some shots that were taken of the 787 while it was
being towed from the assembly hangar to get painted. Here is the link:

IIRC, it's supposed to fly in like a week or so (7/7/07) isn't it?

Jay,

No, the rollout ceremony is on 7/8/07 (get it?), but first flight
isn't until something like September. I have several friends working
on the 787, so I'll get the exact first flight date as we get closer.

That's what I was thinking too.

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787family/background.html
Boeing has selected General Electric and Rolls-Royce to develop
engines for the new airplane. It is expected that advances in
engine technology will contribute as much as 8 percent of the
increased efficiency of the new airplane, representing a nearly
two-generation jump in technology for the middle of the market.

Another improvement in efficiency will come in the way the
airplane is designed and built. New technologies and processes are
in development to help Boeing and its supplier partners achieve
unprecedented levels of performance at every phase of the program.
For example, by manufacturing a one-piece fuselage section, we are
eliminating 1,500 aluminum sheets and 40,000 - 50,000 fasteners.

That's a lot of people to be sitting back-to-knees. Its funny that
Airbus shows this is a large plane with lots of room for the pax. The
truth is that Airbus does not decide how the seats are spaced, the
airline does.
