Some of this has been mentioned already, but let me
review the advantages of soaring cross country in a
1-26 (at least when you're getting started:

- The 1-26 is about the easiest glider available to
land in a small field

- The 1-26 is probably one of the safest gliders to
be in if something goes wrong on the outlanding

- The 1-26 is one of the easiest gliders to put on
a trailer. It's light and goes easily onto an open
trailer

- As the 1-26 fraternity likes to say, 1-26 retrieves
are a lot shorter than fiberglass retrieves - after
all, how far can you expect to go in a 1-26?

- Cross country in a 1-26 gives you the best bragging
rights

- And finally, if you do your cross country in a 1-26,
you *will* get some experience with landing out.
