View Full Version : Youth grants (USA)

June 29th 07, 07:32 AM
We look forward to numerous entries in the "Cadet" learn-to-fly
scholarship contest (named for the 1930 Frank Gross training glider).
While this distributed SSA recruiting tool (poster, site invitation,
essay challenge)is available all year, the submission deadline passes
this weekend -- while kids are free for summer. With a healthy trust
fund, we gave out 3 $600 grants for the first time last year (proceeds
to a Club or FBO sponsor). See www.ssa.org/Youth/youthships.asp and
www.coloradosoaring.org/ssa/ssay/cyfs.htm (inc. application PDF).

Meanwhile, applications and funds for the "Bultman" post-solo line
crew award have both been slim. If you have pride in a youth that is
crucial to your operation, please reply to me privately ASAP, we could
get him/her tow money and national credit (more with tax-deductible
gifts!)

Lastly, we pay respect to the memory of Ken Kolstad. 40 years ago, he
got the ball rolling for SSAers to support their youth members (Silver
+ under 21s by 9/30 -- 51 grants!), cooking up Labor Day BBQs of
(delicious) "Cornell Chicken". Thank you Ken and Kolstad
family!
