Is this some sort of spammer with an accomplice?

I looked at the site. It shows one trick -- how to miscount your fingers.
From there it's all pop-up ads or ads for videos that you buy.

Is there a magic trick that can make these guys disappear? Oh -- yes there
is . . .

Plonk!

Yup the deal is... Some fool goes and clicks into the website that they
are spamming into all these newsgroups... and then all those pop up thingies
happen ... and the Spammer gets PAID CASH of something like 1/10 of a cent
for each time that pop up is shown... Spammer gets a nice paycheck... while
thousands of newsgroup readers waste their time looking at the website.
