I have just uploaded Karl Striedieck's 1978 National Geographic
article to my website:

If you see any typos, do tell.

It looks good, John, and I enjoyed reading it.

The only two typos I noticed are:

- the caption for the second pair of photos is repeated in the text
6 paras below the photos.

- the caption for the turn-point photo is repeated in the text three
paras below the previous repeated caption.

Wow! Thank you so much for bringing back a flood of memories. I was on
the ridge flying from RS the very day Karl made his run featrured in
the article. Flying a Phoebus A, I did my 300K flight, encounterd my
first experience with wave (mostly the rotor), and came home feeling
bruised, battered, but loving life. My ego shrank quite a bit after
finding out he had flown 3x's as far that day. He was off about an
hour before me and hit Oak Ridge about about the time I was on my
second or third celebratory beer.
