If the weather holds together, Julie Boatman will be flying the AOPA
"Catch-a-Cardinal" into Iowa City Airport (KIOW) today (Sunday) about
1 PM.

We're gonna serve refreshments, and it'll be fun to see all the
upgrades and improvements, so stop in if you can!

Tell her not to put so many hours on it... I don't want it to be ready for
overhaul when I win it. :-)

Sorry, Julie assured me (and everyone else) that the plane was already
mine....

:-)

What a panel! With the S-Tec 55 slaved to the Garmin glass panel,
she assured me that the Cardinal could have landed itself in Iowa
City, even though we don't have an ILS approach! Very, very cool.

The leather seats are to die for, and the paint job, prop, and engine
are gorgeous. The rest of the interior is still "a work in progress"
-- but it's going to be great!

It was really nice to see the Sweeps plane in a personal, small-group
setting. We had maybe 35 people waiting, when she landed, and a lot
of them were kids, so Mary and me each got a nice hug from Julie and a
personalized tour.

(We had met Julie at AOPA headquarters back in 2004, when we appeared
at the Udvar-Hazy Center for Margy's "Be A Pilot Day", and personally
thanked her for the nice article she wrote about our hotel in AOPA
Pilot magazine. We struck up a friendship that continues to this
day.

She's also an influential member of our airport's support group,
"Friends of Iowa City Airport" (FOICA), so her assistance has come to
us at many levels. All in all, she's just a great person, and it was
fun to see her again!)

Her co-pilot was the guy who flew the DC-3 in formation with the Yaks
every day at OSH and Sun N Fun this year. A very cool guy, too, whose
name I caught but can't remember now for the life of me...

We held a drawing for a couple of free nights in the hotel, gave away
(and ate!) a bunch of donuts, signed up a few new members of FOICA,
and generally had a very pleasant afternoon.

Their next stop: Olathe, Kansas, followed by Wichita. Catch 'em
there if you can, and tell 'em Jay and Mary say "hi!"
