I was passenger on an Embraer RJ inbound on the localizer at OHare
last night (10 PM, about 2 hrs late, another story). Broke out of the
clouds, gear down - 10 sec later full power, gear up, back into the
clouds. Pilot announced that the airplane in front of us had struck a
flock of birds on approach and the runway was full of debris. It took
about 20 minutes to work back around, which was quicker than I
expected given the mess that must have occurred with sudden closure of
a runway after multiple ground stops through the evening.

Can't find any reference to it anywhere today, though.
