It seems like you got it from airliners.net, so in your case I would just
read the description there.

Lord Howe Island, off the east coast of Australia.

Now it's OK, I suppose.

During the 19th century however it used a penal colony. :-(

Sorry Charles, Norfolk Island was the penal colony was set up, not Lord Howe
Island. From Wikipedia page on the island - "Lord Howe Island was discovered
on 17 February 1788 by HMS Supply, commanded by Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird
Ball, RN, who was on his way from Botany Bay to Norfolk Island with convicts
to start a penal settlement there."

Cheers,

It was actually sent to me from a friend for identification. I knew that
there were people here in this group that would know. So dont jump to
conclusions smart ass.

Please come back to the group and tell all of us just how
this person was being a smart ass.

All he did was quote from Wikipedia.

His comments should have enlightend you as they enlightened the rest in
the group who were mildly curious.

He did not insult you, nor put you down, nor denigrate you.

So what is your problem with his reply.

He accused me of snagging the picture from another website with an
explaination of what the picture was. All I was doing was asking for
identification. Read his post carefully and you will see sarcasm.

My mistake and I sincerely apologize for my unjustified comments.

I though you were quoting a different author.

So stand me up in the prop wash and give me fifty lashes with
a wet noodle.

And now I'm off for a great big crow sandwhich.

Yummy Yum Yum.

Frankly, I don't think that it is necessary to read my post very carefully.
I was more or less straight-out accusing you of playing silly buggers with
the group.

And there have been cases of people posting pictures from airliners.net here
and, even worse, trying to take credit for them. So, when I saw your
picture, obviously taken from that site, I naturally assumed the worst. As
it turns out, you didn't take it from there. I have to apologize.

I do resent being called a smart-ass, though. I was not trying to show off
my intellect. I think "asshole" would have been more appropriate.*

*) See? Now I'm being a smart-ass.

Lol, I apologize. I know that some of the pics in this group are snagged
from other sites. Most pics I post, except vintage pics are taken by me or
scanned from my numerous pics from my Air Force career. As for the runway
picture, I appreciate the correct ident. I am a private pilot and love
collecting pics from final approaches at various airports and strips.

Oops, wrong island, I should have read more closely! :-)
