Oh, they are not that close. I guess they are about 400-500 feet above
ground level. They look closer because of the way the photos are cropped.
As they cross our lake, usually in a clockwise spiral as they aim for the
threshold of the runway just to the east of us, they drop like rocks and
disappear into the pine trees on the eastern edge of the lake. It's really
neat. Looks like they just go into the trees and nest. Of course we know
they have to fly across some more forest before hitting the airfield. That's
the approach for runway 07R.
For runway 07L they fly parallel to our street. Depending on the height of
the aircraft it looks like it's skimming the trees or, when it's a tad to
the north, like it's flying nap of the earth between the pines. When they
are low on the north side I have to photograph them when they pass a place
where the trees are short.
It's fun. We live in a zone where everyone who moved here in recent years
signed a document saying they would not complain about aircraft noise.
That's part of the plan to fight encroachment around the base. There are
rules about what kind of buildings can be constructed and the max occupancy.
The government doesn't want to loose this training site because a bunch of
high rise condos suddenly appeared. Makes sense to me, Tom

Here's what I mean about the aircraft disappearing into the pine
trees.......

If you don't want to open the attachment it's okay; it's an A-10 Warthog
seen from the rear as it descends into the horizon of trees.
