What a fantastic machine. Only the Italians could make an aeroplane
as beautiful and impractical as that. It looks as if it's been taken
from a fantasy like Peter Pan. Did it actually fly? (Yes, google is
my friend!)

"Only one example of this aircraft was built by Caproni. The prototype
only made one short flight on 4 March 1921 over Lake Maggiore in
Italy. The aircraft attained an altitude of only 60 feet and crashed
shortly thereafter. It broke up on impact and quickly filled with
water, sinking to the bottom of the lake in a few minutes."
I wonder if this was that flight?

And that was despite having almost three trimotors - eight engines
rather than the three implied by the title of the series.
Nice series though.
