On the subject of Zig Zag Tape Positioning (on Masak
Winglets and Wing Fairing),
and more

Hi Chris,

Much is like the effects of
and uses
for
mousemilk,
or
for drinking
cobra blood.

It is what one feels and thinks.

Oh My God, what a whammo !
or
is it ?

Very hard to quantify
to evaluate
to test the benefits
(Dick Johnson has done his best on seeking to quantify
effects of
changes and he finds much debate generated by all his
efforts tho he gives of the best quantification and
ideation)

Difficult to isolate the chosen variable
when there are so many other variables
at play in a flight.

Which wax is best ?

How shall I part my hair or wear my hat, for best effect
?

My goodness.

I wish you the best.

With or without tips,
with or without wingzag tapes placed here or there,
one's fate may or may not
be
optimized
or
degraded.

Or was it the cirrus layer, or the winds, or my computer
messing
up ?

Or my not having a cool drink with me,
that diet coke in the cockpit I wished I had,
or not having another
Granola Bar ?

Oh Fate. So fickle.

Let us slick
our gliders
and put on the gofast magic
wax,
seal this
and
seal that
(and that really works we know)

and put secret helium into our tyre,

and get the longer or shorter wing vert stickuppers
with this angle in or out and hope its right,

or fly like lightning

fast without any at all,

and put on this zig or that zag tape here or there,

and we shall never know
and
few shall care

except
as
Free Men
we have the power to do what we want
and do it

We do
or Not,
and
Glory To That !

Freedom.

God bless you,

Should the tape be placed on inboard or outboard side
(i've seen it applied on either sides on other gliders).
How close to the trailing edge of the winglet should
I apply the tape?

from the fuselage fairing going outboard onto the wing
(in the direction of the spar), cut into 2 pieces
of course (about 6 inches on the fuselage, and 6 inches
on the wing). The positioning was about where the spar
is located.
The owner told me that he had copied it from an
ASG29 and that the positive effect applied to all gliders.
He also said that he
noticed the effect which surprised me. Anyone seen
or heard about this and know where one should position
this tape on a 20?
