Dear fellow pilots,

I need turn and slip indicator for my glider. Can anybody recommend
an online shop in Europe were to buy one (with reasonable price). I
would also like to know if there is a specific make and model
available, which is known to have low electricity consumption.

Regards,

Colin Street at http://www.cairaviation.co.uk/ supplied mine - I am
very happy with it.

I fitted one a few months ago. I got it from Severn Valley Sailplanes,
http://www.svsp.co.uk/

It is a refurbished unit, adjusted for a 24 second turn rate and
supplied with a solid state 12v->28v DC-DC converter. It spins up in
5-10 secs. IIRC it draws under 350 mA. I had to add a capacitor (450 uF,
2.8 amp ripple current) across the 12v power leads to stop it hashing
out my radio when it hit full speed. Apparently it has a centrifugal
switch to control its operating rpm and this switches in and out very
fast when it reaches full speed, generating electrical noise.

Power consumption should not be a big issue. Mine spins up in 6.5
seconds (I just checked it with a stopwatch) so you can switch it on
just before you need it and turn it off as soon as you're in clear air
again. There's a picture of the unit on the Severn Valley Sailplane site at:

http://www.svsp.co.uk/Shop%20Website/pages/Surplus_instruments.htm

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. The person adapting them for
glider use only does a few at a time, so contact Severn to see if they
have any in stock and/or when they expect some more.
