So, if this could be made to be "secure" could we use it as a contest,
record, or badge logger?

I sure like the price!

I could not tell from the information on the web page if it could record
altitude.
If it did, it would be at least good enough for OLC.

The Wintec WBT-201 is smaller, has a better and more accurate GPS
receiver, can store several times as many fixes in its memory, is
capable of logging at intervals down to as little as 250 milliseconds
(the Trackstick has a minimum 5 second interval), runs for up to 15
hours on its rechargeable battery (the Trackstick uses AAA batteries),
has Bluetooth capability, also comes with Google Earth compatible
software, and costs less then $100US:

Here's a comparison of the Trackstick to another (even cheaper)
Bluetooth GPS unit similar to the WBT-201:

From the Link:

"The Trackstick records its own location, time, date, speed, heading
and ALTITUDE at preset intervals." (Caps used for emphasis.)

It does record altitude (and speed) when configured to do so, the
description is not quite correct...

Sure looks like a nice unit. However, unless I missed something it
does not record altitude.

It is always wise to review past rec.aviation.soaring articles as this
item was discussed earlier. The reviews of the Trackstick (one word,
not two) were not very good to say the least.

Thanks for the info! This is worth taking a closer look at.
