Actually, I think it's interesting (comical?) that the study identifies the
danger in crop dusting as turf landings...

That takes test flying, crop dusting and firefighting ops into consideration
but doesn't really break it down compared with ferrying, instruction or
other commercial activity.

Also, it's dated a bit, stating that there's strong competition and more
pilots than jobs. That may be the case, but, they're recruiting right out
of college campuses now.

I have a 70 year old friend who has about 34,000 hours ag flying and
still going.
he'd say that nose down landings on steep hillsides covered in 'turf'
might be seen as a danger :-)

Are private pilots in there?
or is that just professional pilots?
Did they compute the 101 because of the smaller number of pro pilots.

I am surprised mining is not in there.
Or police officer.
I'd take pilot any day.

They mentioned coal mining in China. I read about 4000 die per year
doing that.

It's hard to get a grip on how big 100,000 is compared to 88.

Anyway, regardless, every time I get on I-35 I feel like I'm running a
gauntlet. It feels much worse than being at 3500 feet or doing T&G
work. One comparison that I can make sense of is that the number of
deaths in GA is about equal to number of deaths of motorcycle riders.
And I bet on the stretches of I-35 I have to drive.

Really got to convince my wife to let me buy a 172.
