View Full Version : Man stole plane to impress girlfriend
Mxsmanic

He was able to start the engines and roll for a while along the ground, but
couldn't steer and ended up in a soybean field, after doing $160,000 of damage
to the twin-engine aircraft:

Mxsmanic stated later to reporters that he "just needs a little more
practice in the
twin on his flight simulator software before attempting another
aircraft theft." Apparently,
he is spending too much time reading, posting and replying to a
usenet group of (mostly)
real pilots.

Funny stuff. You missed out on one big thing, though.
He would not do it to impress a girl. He doesn't socialize, and doesn't
have sex.

He's wrong about almost everything else, he's probably wrong about that too.

Crashing an aircraft in order to impress someone doesn't seem very bright.
Nor is it likely to work.

Just when I thought we were safe from drunk idiots stealing
airplanes... How does someone like that (drunk idiot non-pilot) figger
out how to start the engines? A non-pilot probably wouldn't know about
the POH.
The real shame of it is that the twin now has damage history (assuming
it didn't before, of course) affecting its value just because Darwin
hadn't yet caught up to that fuggin moron..

He most likely learned how to start the engines from a sim game. Now
if his sim had pedals, he might also have learned how to steer it. He
may have a thousand hours of sim time, after all, and that would make
him an expert, right?

Now that's a subtle but specific insult if I ever heard one.

Subtle? What would my mentor, Beritie, say? I'd fail as a troll in

Ahh. So he was crashing *deliberately* in order to impress
his girlfriend. I see.

Operating a vehicle you know nothing about is essentially asking for a crash.
