Giant Ekranoplans were made for a quarter-century in the Soviet Union, under a heavy veil of secrecy, falling in and out of favor, depending on the thinking of the reigning Premier. Some were built as troop transports, designed to carry up to 600 battle-equipped troops at a time, "fly" them in ground effect, under radar, and land them on the beach!
