Photos are requested of soaring at Marfa to copy for the dedication of
Marfa Airport as a National Landmark of Soaring (by the National
Soaring Museum) on April 4 + 5, 2008.

These copies (or your originals) will be added to the archives as I
finish a complete history of the site. Photos from the Sagebrush
Soaring / "Cowboys of the Sky" camps at Marfa in the 1960's, plus the
US Nationals in 1967, 1969, 1972 and the World Soaring Championships
in 1970 are especially welcome. Marfa soaring posters, programs,
pins, badges and medals will be on display during the event. Do you
have memorabilia to add?

Slides: I have found a good source to copy slides onto CD and will
make a copy for the archives and one for you at no charge. My source
can also copy movie film to DVD, so we can preserve these images now!

Contact me soon at for my mailing address, as the
dedication week "slides & movie night" is April 4th. Yes, I will
also show the "Sun Ship Game" soaring film of the 1969 US Nationals at
Marfa.

Our 2008 Marfa Thermal & Wave Camp will precede the dedication, March
29 - April 5. Pilot registration is required in advance with mentor
Dick Johnson at

Sharing your images is much appreciated. The final destination of all
of these photos and memorabilia will be our National Soaring Museum in
Elmira, NY.

For more info on the past and present activities at Marfa and some of
the photos, go to www.flygliders.com and click on the "Landmark"
button. The dedication of the bronze plaque on Marfa Airport will be
at Noon, April 5th, followed by a "Glider Mail" flight.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP soon as the April 5th banquet,
featuring George Moffat as our guest speaker, is 68% sold out. The
beautifully restored Paisano Hotel in Marfa will be our gathering
place.

Many of the pilots from the old days are planning to attend, so this
will be quite a reunion for us all.
