This amounts to a sales piece for a remarkable airplane - it's 4
minutes long, but it's worth watching to the end.

If you wach closely in full screen mode, you can see the differential
flipper action: there is some busy computer helping the pilot.

It's an impressive airplane, but it makes one wonder if there's a
likely mission that would require an airplane with this agility. Are
close encounters with the bad guys likely, or do missiles do the deed
from long range?

While there are missiles that can take out the enemy from well beyond visual
range it's my understanding that they are rarely if ever used at that
range. The mark 1 mod 0 eyeball is the primary threat identifier.

1) You never want to get in a close fight with someone who can turn inside
you or outmaneuver you. Ever watched the MIGs or other fighter jets in an
air show?

2) Missiles don't always work, long range shots may be deflected or dodged.

2) Yes, close encounter is always likely given #2 above.

What weapons for close encounters?

Reminds me some years ago I saw one for the first time at an airshow.

I was just parking my car when it arrived.
Dang, that thing was huge!
I got so excited to see what it could do I quickly climbed outta my car and
stood on the bumper to try to see over some of the static displays between
the lot and the showline.

It is LOUD and it looks enormous.

After the ruckus died down and I could hear for a moment, I noticed my car
was still running...

and the door was locked. >_<

What about the Eurofighter? It's got a low radar x-section, a faster
turn, super cruise and excellent manuverability -I hear. It also has
some fancy detectors too to overcome radar stealthy objects...

Cheers
