Neat install I wonder what the cooling requirements are.

The noise might also be an issue, but neat idea...

I'd rather have it in the breeze so I can see it with a mirror. If it then
catches fire where it's not supposed to I have a chance of cutting off the
fuel supply before it becomes catastrophic.

Hi all,
nothing new - has been done already in the early 1960's! Take a look
at http://vintagesailplanes.de/Huetter30TS.htm
Same concept - just reversed. The Huetter H30TS design shows many of
the features of the H101 Salto as well as the H301/201 series.

There's an English description, photo and 3-view drawing of the Hutter
H-30 in Martin Simons' book "Sailplanes 1945-1965" pages 261-264.
The article also describes how the Libelle H301, HBV Diamant series,
Standard Libelle and H-101 Salto were derived from it. There's a nice
3-view of the H.301 Libelle too.

Al,
you're welcome!
If you mean 'where is the glider now', well, according that text, the
H30TS was flown without the engine for a while before it got destroyed
in a winch launch accident. Bummer!!
Another neat jey powered glider with internal engines is the Swiss
built Prometheus. Its a side-by-side two seater with two small
engines. It is used as a test bed for all kinds of wing
configurations.

We have a local pilot, Dave "Hammer" Harris who has a Caproni A21J out
at the Ephrata field. Here's a website from one of our soaring club
pilots, Stan Kasprzyk, and his adventure in the Jet Caproni Sailplane.
Cool Pictures too.

I have pictures of the Apis Jet from Aero 2007. Don't know if they
can be posted here or not. I can't find a way. It uses two NACA
scoops on the lower forward fuselage and the exhaust exits the belly
behind the landing gear. The whole engine pivots to retract the
exhaust with out a flexible joint. I can't say I was very impressed
with the installation - especially with regard to fireproofing. The
Huetter H30TS mentioned in the post seems to have a very similar
engine installation. I imagine that is where the inspiration for the
jet Apis came from. As usual, not much is really new.
I also have pictures of the Swiss Prometheus. Spent a lot of time in
the hangar where it is stored in the last few years.
