Lets keep this simple...I DO NOT want to leave the USA...that is why I ask
for help in finding a flight that begins in the USA and ends in the
USA.....and I DO NOT appreciate anyone turning this into a political arena.
THANK YOU!!

Touchy! It wasnt meant to be political. Down my neck of the woods,
ridiculing politicians isnt being political, it is more of a sport.
They get dangerous if you hold them in too high esteem.

I probably wouldn't feel so bad about that ( what rhymes with idiot, oh yea,

to jump around anywhere he wants to go in.

Some Asian carriers fly legs along the West Coast in 747s. KAL and Asiana do
this regularly, and the flight is only 53 minutes long, so it's a good way to
experience a 747-400.
In the old days, there were a lot more 747s flying domestically. But now
airlines prefer to have zillions of flights in small planes rather than a
smaller number of flights in large planes, and so large aircraft have gone out
of style for U.S. domestic service. Perhaps the pendulum will swing back one
day. The current situation doesn't bode well for the Airbus A380, as it is an
aircraft without a market, at least within the U.S. The 747 is not in
production right now, although a new version is coming.
I think some carriers in Asia still use 747s for short hops with very high
traffic volume. Cargo still moves around in 747s, also.

Spoken like the true ****ing moron you are.
Boeing currently has 22 unfilled orders for 747's, not counting the
747-8.

If they do it anywhere, it would probably be NY to LA, but I don't
know of any.
The only 747's I've been on were international flights, and that was a
while ago. My recent trips to Europe were all 767's, 757's and
Airbuses, as were my domestic trips to Alaska and Hawaii.

I flew Chicago to LA on United 747 many moons ago, but not sure what is
flown currently.

All of the 747-400 orders are for cargo versions. Boeing has stopped
production of passenger versions. There is one BBJ configuration of the 747
on order.

Just for grins, would you mind posting any domestic passenger 747
routes?
I'm just curious if anyone is using them within the US for non-cargo
operations.

I quess I should have been more specific...I mean 747 flights within the
CONTINENTAL USA....and I'm everyone one understood what I meant.
I did find a flight on China Airlines between SFO and Miami....whether or
not it has passenger service on that or not or if they will sell me a seat
for that flight I don't know. They're website only shows international
flights. I have emailed several foreign airlines to ask about this due to
Mxsmanic's helpful post.

I'd look for flights between Asia and the midwest or east coast making
stops in Anchorage or Fairbanks, and book the leg between Alaska and the
lower 48. I presume you're not limiting yourself to US carriers with
whatever is restraining you from leaving the US? If not, look for
extensions of foreign flights from east or west coast points of entry to
internal destinations. E.g., Tokyo - San Francisco - Chicago. (Not that
I know whether that route is flown - just made it up as an example.)

Ted;
Your new here so I'll give you a hint. Spend a little time reading what MX
has posted over the last several months and you'll see why Benjamin reacted
the way he did. MX has been posting nonsense and acting as a source of
information that he has no knowledge of and when it's pointed out that he is
speaking nonsense he goes off on the posters if a variety of ridicules ways.
He was not slapped down the first 10 or 20 or even 30 times he did it but
eventually we got tired of his stupidity and started acting out against it.
Your post is a perfect example of why the group felt they needed to. You
came in here to ask a question and MX posted a response. You would have no
way of knowing he was clueless and you might have left believing him. In
this case it would not have made much difference as your question would not
have effected anyone ability to fly safely but on other occasions and other
questions he has responded in a way that could endanger others lives. The
group here will simply not allow that to happen.
Hope this helps,
John

No apology needed. You are new here and obviously didn't know about

A BBJ is not flown by airlines, and it's pretty difficult to get a flight on
one. BBJs and cargo aircraft are not relevant to the question of the original

Your answer was pure bull ****, as usual.
You don't fly. You don't know **** about aviation. All you do is
play with MSFS while stroking your joy stick.

Hey, schmuck, you really don't know much about Usenet, do you? Posts
arrive at different servers in different order, often with random
delays. Furthermore, many people read them in threaded order, not
chronological order. As of the time of my question and again at the time
of this response, there is still no post on my server that answers the
question.
You also added, "I quess I should have been more specific...I mean 747
flights within the CONTINENTAL USA....and I'm everyone one understood
what I meant," which is not met by the Vancouver-JFK route either.
Unless we're to understand you're the sort of moron who believes British
Columbia to be part of the USA.
You're making quite a splash here, starting with wandering in and asking
a question off topic for rec.aviation.piloting in the first place. Keep
it up and you'll find yourself getting the full treatment.

The only 747 that the original poster is likely to ride in is a passenger
version, and that version is no longer made. The fact that cargo versions and
BBJs are still made is irrelevant.

And please accept my apology, for my snide remarks, initially.
For some reason, I confused you with Ken, and I have no lost love for him,
and his presence here.
Really, I think you will be let down by your flight on a 747. It is longer,
and wider than most airliners, and other than that, feels just the same, as
far as motion, accelerations, and noise. The center section can be a pain,
crawling over people to get out.
Plus that, there is much less chance you will get a window seat, and be able
to see out.
Good luck.

Slither. Slither. Slither.
Your statement was not qualified. It simply said that the 747 was no
longer in production. Patently false.

The OP's question is irrelevant. The fact that the 747 is still in production
is expressly relevant to the accuracy of a statement that you made claiming
that the 747 is no longer in production.

You have the reading comprehension of a lobotomized gerbil, don't you?
Along with the anger issues of a rabid wolverine...
Try reading what I wrote:
"I'd look for flights between Asia and the midwest or east coast making
stops in Anchorage or Fairbanks, and book the leg between Alaska and the
lower 48. I presume you're not limiting yourself to US carriers with
whatever is restraining you from leaving the US? If not, look for
extensions of foreign flights from east or west coast points of entry to
internal destinations."
I'll put that in short words for you. There are two options discussed:
- Big plane goes from lower 48 to Alaska. You get off in Alaska. Big
plane goes on to Asia without you. (With luck you'll wander off into the
woods and get stomped by a moose, but more likely you get on a return
flight.)
- Big plane goes from Asia to US west coast city. Some people get off.
You get on big plane in west coast city. Big plane continues on to
second US city. You get off big plane.
Can you follow the bouncing balls? Both options have you flying from a
US city to another US city, at no time touching Asia.
YOU are the one who repeatedly insisted you would not leave the USA.
That's a binary constraint - either you do leave it or you don't leave
it. You made no exception for entering Canada. YOU are the one who
announced, after making such a big deal about that, that you would leave
the US, then fly from Canada back to the US.

Ted,
Did a little research this morning. I do not know where you live, but
if you desire to travel on a PAX-based 747 you will have to travel a
bit. Here is why.
China Airlines, on their timetable, advertise a 747 PAX flight between
ANC (Anchorage AK) and JFK (New York City). If I understand "Cabotage"
a bit, these flight (#11 and #12, depending on direction) do not qualify
as "domestic" flights since the flight is not conducted entirely over US
domestic airspace (it has to transit Canadian airspace between its
origination and destination). Also, the states of Alaska and Hawaii
(along with the US possessions and territories (e.g.: Guam and Puerto
Rico)) are not considered as US domestic locations, since they are not
located within the Continental US (a.k.a.: "CONUS"). So the restriction
on "domestic flights" does not apply. So if you desire to experience a
"PAX-Based" 747 flight, this is the only one I can find.
As you look at the scheds on Flightaware, you will see domestic 747
routes. However, as I look at them, they are all cargo routes. I do
not know if you could "con" UPS, for example, to permit you to buy space
on one of their freighters (chances are "Not"). If you desire to fly on
a regularly-scheduled 747 PAX flight, given existing scheds, Good Luck!
You are SOL!
The only other way you could experience a domestic 747 PAX flight is
this. I have a friend of mine who has a family member that, some number
of years ago, upgraded from FO TO CAPT on the 747 with NWA. After
completing training, a period of Initial Operational Experience (IOE)
had to be conducted under FAA supervision. These flight, for the most
part, are conducted domestically. These flights are very rare, and are
not normally announced. So if you can establish some "contacts" with
NWA, this may be another way you can achieve your goal.
FYI, I have flown 747s in domestic US airspace. The flights were UA 250
(SEA-ORD) and PAA 122 (SFO-SEA). That was a very long time ago.
Good luck in your quest.

The last time I rode on a 747 I was crammed dead center in the middle of the
airplane for seven hours or whatever between a Korean and a French guy.
Absolutely miserable.
Got to ride first class a few times when I was a kid, because my dad worked
for United. That'll spoil a kid quick! After the last trip, though, I
don't care if I ever seen the inside of a 747 again.

Worst flight of my life was on a 747 nonstop from London to L.A. back
when there were still smoking sections on flights. I'm badly allergic to
cigarette smoke, and I got stuck in the very last row of the flight. Not
only was it a smoking section, it seemed every smoker on the flight
walked back to the back of plane and stood next to me while lighting up.
For 11 or 12 hours. Took me two weeks to recover from the effects.

Do you want some cheese with that wine? Try flying on a B52
for 22 hours with no where to ****. You can see your breath
and the ride sux.

Yeah but Rich paid the airline for his flight.

I live in Anchorage, and I don't believe that any passenger airlines fly
747's into here anymore. The opening of Russian airspace and aircraft with
longer range have made a stop in AK not necessary. The cargo planes still
come in, but AFAIK, the passenger 747's do not.

A shame - it must make the planespotting so much less rewarding. I
remembered NW use to stop in Anchorage or Fairbanks heading west
sometimes in winter because of the winds, but I couldn't find any such
flights when I checked their schedules recently.
