Any ideas as to why there'd be a windshield wiper on cockpit glass that's
not directly in front of the pilot, but none on glass that is directly in
front of the pilot?

I wonder if the airstream keeps the glass in front of the pilot clear
without use of a wiper.

Probably because that's the only window through which you can see past
the engine when landing ;-)
