To answer my own previous question about places to eat near KGYR, we flew up
to Goodyear today for breakfast and ate at an excellent restaurant an easy
15 minute walk from the field. Raul and Theresa's Mexican Restaurant opens
at 7:30 am on the weekends and serves a breakfast and lunch menu in the
morning. The restaurant is visible from the intersection of South
Litchfield Rd and Highway 85 near the SE corner of the intersection.
GYR is an interesting place. It was a Naval Air Station in a previous life
and now has quite a bit of foreign training activity. The German Air Force
has offices there and Lockheed Martin also has a major operation at the edge
of the field. The FBO has a photo display of the earlier days of the
airfield. The tower and FBO people were very friendly and the FBO has a
small pilot shop.
The fuel prices were lower than average, $4.15 per gallon from the fuel
truck for cash or the operators own brand credit card.
