Anyone planning on flying gliders near Phoenix, Arizona, needs to be
aware that there have been major changes to the class B airspace since
last soaring season. The changes have a direct impact on the airspace
available to gliders in the vicinity of Estrella Sailport and Turf
Soaring.
Also, the top of the class B was lowered from 10,000 feet to 9,000
feet which would have required gliders to have operating mode C
transponders to fly between 9,000ft and 10,000ft anywhere in the 30NM
mode C veil. This requirement has been eliminated under the terms of
a Letter of Agreement (LOA) signed by representatives of Phoenix
TRACON, Arizona Soaring Inc (Estrella), Turf Soaring School, and
Arizona Soaring Association.
Please purchase a current terminal area chart, and ensure any
electronic chart database is current, before flying in the Phoenix
area.
Please also become familiar with terms of the LOA which may be
downloaded from:

thanks
