View Full Version : Don't land on the green runway.

PBIA constructed a huge new taxiway right next to their small GA runway.
Airport management expresses continual surprise when airplanes land on the
taxiway after mistaking it for the GA runway. After trying several other fixes,
they are now painting much of the taxiway green as camouflage to approaching
aircraft. Unless you are OK with a 30-day license suspension, keep in mind that
there are no sod runways at KPBI!

Livermore (LVK) has a similiar problem, and their solution was to
paint 'taxi' in big letters on the taxiway right where the runway
identifier would be.

Whatever happened with the Continental pilots who mistakenly landed on the
taxiway at Newark Liberty (EWR) last year? Was anything done to change the
visual clues at that field?

Sshhh! Not only is that too practical and not political enough for
southeastern Florida, but the same is true in Kalifornia. So don't let them
find out in Sacramento. Come to think of it; for God/s sake, don't let them
find out what Sacramento means!

What's true in California? That KLVK is there? That's certainly true
(it's one of my local airports). That the Californian solution mentioned
above is too practical for California? That seems a little odd, but
never mind...

Find out what? That an airport almost on Sacramento's doorstep has
"TAXI" painted on one of its taxiways? Sacramento probably paid for it.

Who's "them"? Is there anyone in Sacramento who doesn't know what
"Sacramento" means?

the large wide taxi ways at LAS have a large double wide yellow snaking "S"
down the centerline.. with the words Taxi Only

You

are talking about the taxiway that runs parallel and between the
runway? I didn't realize it was that new. It looked like a runway for
years before they opened it as a taxiway.
Quite honestly, the real hazard there is the potential for collision
between departing corporate jets and aircraft transiting the airspace.
The radar coverage there is terrible.
