View Full Version : Does Flightaware list military flights?

An F-22 took off from 2R at KPDK right around 1:00 EDT. I went to
flightaware.com and don't see it listed. Even though PDK is a
civilian airport do they not show military departures?

I don't think I've seen a military plane on Flightaware.

Also, Flightware doesn't normally show VFR flights. I've departed VFR
and opened my IFR plan during the trip, which created a partial track
on Flightware.

It also often does not pick up airborne IFR clearances. The only time
it seems you are guaranteed to be in FlightAware is when you get an
IFR clearance prior to departure. VFR is just hit-and-miss, you never
know if it will show up.

From FlightAware.com's FAQ

Can I track military aircraft? What about presidential movements in Air
Force One? (Back To Top)

FlightAware does not track military aircraft and presidential movement
flights (e.g., Air Force One, Marine One, etc.) are operated by the US
military.

You can also request not to be tracked. I was at KFYV (Fayetteville, AR)
once and saw a beautiful jet sitting there. I copied the tail number and
logged in. It made some comment to that affect. The tail number was
N10DC, I believe. Owned by the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dassault Falcons owned by my employer are blocked, as well.

That should be N1DC.

N1DC used to be on a Lear 35 that Jerry bought just about the time he bought
the Cowboys. He later traded up to a Lear 60 that was destroyed in a
landing accident in Alabama. N1DC is now a GV.

Damned impressive plane. Especially when parked beside the Citation 2 &
3s, and Beechcrafts on the ramp here at KELD.

The planes here several times a year. His son is married to a girl from
here and 2 out of 4 of her brothers now work for the Cowboys organization.

The bus they come up in every once in while ain't no slouch either.

You must be in El Dorado then. I knew Karen and Joe. The Lear 60 was going
into Alabama to pick up Stephen; they hit a deer on the landing roll-out.

Yep, I went to school with their brother John.

There is also some weirdness for flights where IFR is canceled in the
air. I once called a friend asking why he'd diverted. "Diverted?" was
his reply. He'd canceled, however, which somehow was entered/displayed
as a diversion.

I've seen this twice now (though I've no way of knowing how many flights
I've seen where IFR was canceled that this didn't occur).
