View Full Version : Camera vibration mount.

April 19th 08, 02:25 AM
Just tried to take a video today of my flight and used about 1" of
foam under the camera to hold it down. It does ok to absorb actual
frame vibrations but not the jiggles (potholes) on the taxiway and
other sudden shocks which send the camera rattling on the soft foam.
Any suggestions for material that will absorb the vibs but not too
rigid to send the camera shaking too much?

Gyro mount? A little expensive, for most. <g>

Counterweight the camera, so it only bounces straight up and down.

Work out some arrangement so you can WEAR the camera -- helmet mount,
shoulder mount, etc. A 3-axis gyro-stabilized camera mount is not
only an expensive piece of gear, it takes up quite a bit of space and
is something of a power hog. With a body-mount there is still some
jerkiness imposed by UNEXPECTED bumps but your body does a pretty good
job of automatically compensating for such motions when they are
expected.

I had my best results with hand held, but jammed tight right up against a window or door post. Seems the more rigid the
mounting then better the shot....
