Hi all,

some of you may be aware that the UK government is planning the
construction of 10 so-called "eco" towns on this little windy island in
the next few years.

Unfortunately one of the 15 shortlisted sites includes RAF
Weston-on-the-Green, home to the Oxford Gliding Club, one of the oldest
clubs in the country.

While we are of course concerned about the possible loss of our
airfield, this is not the only reason why the plan to build a new town
in this area is absolutely ludicrous:

- Part of the proposed site is in the Oxford green belt
- Part of the proposed site is a designated site of special scientific
interest - how ironic if these were to be destroyed by an "eco" town
- It would put even more pressure on already congested local roads and
motorways.

If you would like to know more and help us save a valuable bit of
English countryside (and the Oxford Gliding Club) please have a look here:
http://www.gliding.co.uk/documents/ogcweston.pdf

And please sign the petition against the Weston Otmoor development here
(sorry, only UK residents and expats):
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/WestonOtmoor/

It would be absolutely wonderful if you could also send a letter/mail to
your MP about this issue.

Thanks a lot for your help

Happy soaring

Claudia
