Maybe somebody already brought this up. But I finally found a decent
priced HID light kit and converted my halogen (H3) landing light. Got
a motorcycle conversion kit from eBay for $63 incl/shipping. For more
info see my page http://www.abri.net/sq2000/21.html

I am surprised to see that you mounted the light on the top of the
fuselage instead of the bottom.

If you raise the nose, the light will not illuminate the ground ahead of
you.

If you are in any fog/haze, the reflected light will totally kill your
night vision.

Canards land more flat and they don't flare with nose up like
conventional aircraft . The light points the required angle downward.

Thats an exaggerated alarmist comparison to mounting it just 6" lower.
Other canards mount the light in wing leading edge (behind pilot)
which should have the same "disastrous" effect - but nobody in all
these years has mentioned such a problem.
