View Full Version : Help remove SPAM from .rec aviation soaring
We are seeing an increasing level of offers for watches, shoes, Pay
Pal and other SPAM showing up in our little corner of the Internet.
There are a few things you can do to clean up the SPAM that is showing
up on this news group.
1. Click the SPAM message
2. Select "More Options" from upper right
3. Select "Report this message"
4. Follow the brief instructions
(Tip: Cut and paste the SPAM in description)
It takes about 30 seconds and has been effective in the past.
Apologies to spam the group on spam but this is starting to get out of
hand.

Better yet, don't use Google. Google is where most of that trash is coming
from. Google seems intent on destroying the Usenet, so they will do nothing to
eliminate the spam, regardless of how many of you waste your time reporting it
to them.
I use a news server and Outlook Express. With a few simple filters I
eliminate 95% of the spam. Learn about a free news server here;
http://news.aioe.org/ , you probably already have Outlook Express.

Or try using a dedicated newsreader rather than a mail client. In the
Linux world Thunderbird can read newsgroups, but Pan is better at it.
IMO the best Windows reader is Forte's Agent, which runs without killfile
facilities unless toy register it ($29) which turns on excellent
filtering.
Personally, I won't read news with a web browser. The interface is poor
and I strongly dislike Google Groups' page layout. Using a web browser to
read news is like taking a shower in a raincoat: you can do it, but WHY?

For those using a proper usenet client here's my blacklist:
global-replica-watch.com
Unfortunately it has started growing rapidly :(

A blacklist is a great place to start, but don't forget to filter the subject
line. I can easily do without any post whose subject line has certain words
such as: "sneakers, wholesale, Viagra, ...". You get the idea.
