Apologies - somehow my damned computer left out the second paragraph so in
my first posting so naturally there was no question to answer - no wonder
nobody replied. F.Y.I. I have also sent this to Garrecht. Please help - the
answer must be obvious to someone out there but I just cannot find it...

Resent with paragraph 2 included this time!

For several years I have been trying to make sense out of the Win-Pilot/VL
system - writing instructions, trying them out, asking other pilots for
suggestions, re-writing, etc. both for my own benefit in "going for the
gold" as well as to try to interest other pilots in expanding their skills.
I am out of the country for six months over the winter, so have not been at
it full time, but on return this year I finally thought I had it down. I got
the tasks set up in the WP, transferred it all to the VL with VL DEC, set
all the proper parameters in the VL (500 meters. 3KM sector, sector beeps.
marker beeps, etc., etc) all IAW the sometimes incomprehensible VL manual.

A buddy of mine took the VL up a few days ago and all went OK except that
the automatic functions (beeps to indicate passage, advance to the next TP)
did not
function. I asked a somewhat knowledgeable individual here who said one also
had to go to
MENU:FAI:DECLARE. I did this and took it up myself yesterday - nope - same
problem. All works
fine but I cannot get TP passage verification and advance to the next TP.
All else
works just fine and YES, the cylinder and sector parameters are set.

This is getting frustrating. I have put in a great deal of effort trying to
help myself and others and there is still some last step wrong. I have gone
over and over the manual and parts of it are simply poorly written - an
observation I am trying hard to rectify. I have seen all the stuff on
editing the FAI form (not the VL DEC form) but assume that this is what one
does by designing a task with Win Pilot and then loading it into the VL. It
isn't easy to figure out at first, but I have been through it enough now
that it really isn't that hard, either but I must be missing SOMETHING!

I anyone is interested, if you send me your email I can send you a Word copy
of what I have done as I think it is very useful with the exception of some
incomprehensible last step so the gadget will do its job of recognizing the
TP, notifying with the appropriate beeps, and advancing to the next
automatically as I know it is supposed to do.

Any help will be most appreciated - I am simply out of ideas and do not have
much hair left to tear out.
