View Full Version : Read 'em & Weep -- Rec. Aviation Rogues Gallery is Coming Down

Jay Honeck[_2_]
September 4th 08, 04:14 PM
There once was a time, not long ago, when this group was filled with
hundreds of positive, upbeat, and interesting pilots and aviation
enthusiasts. It was a fascinating place, with the only shortfall being that
we couldn't SEE what each of us was/were flying.

Therefore, I came up with the idea of a Rec.Aviation Rogues Gallery, where
regular posters could post a little biographical information and some
pictures of their aircraft. See it here:
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/rec_aviation.htm

As you can see, it was pretty popular, and it was great fun to administer.
It really helped give a "feel" for the person you were talking to, and I
think everyone enjoyed the opportunity to show off their "pride & joy"
aircraft.

You may see pictures of some current posters, but what you'll notice most is
the huge number of people who are no longer here. One by one, almost all
the great folks in the Rogues Gallery have been driven off by the
"Bertie/MX/Rich/Mikey/Maxwell Troll-o-Rama Show". I would not have
believed it to be possible, but in a relatively short period of time this
tiny handful of trolls and sock-puppets has driven away an amazing number of
people. As a result, this group, for all intents and purposes, no longer
exists as an avenue of meaningful exchange for pilots.

It is therefore with great sadness that I've decided to pull the gallery
down. Look at it, copy/save your pictures if you'd like, enjoy it while you
can -- but Friday it's going away. There's simply no reason for it to
exist anymore.

Blue skies, all.

Honestly dude, you act like you are trying to get even with people on
this list. If you feel the need to move on, why not just do so ?

I didn't know this site existed -- too bad it's going, it makes for
interesting reading. Ah, but you're going to get flak because it is --
can I say the word? -- moderated!.A photo ID might me a good idea for
a forum, we already know people who are not easily identified manage
to contaminate some newsgoups.

It's his style. He's a control freak. If he can't have everything
exactly his way, including no dissent, Jay takes his ball and goes home.

What's truly fully is he honestly believes his game was really worth
something. I've seen some childish behavior on usenet, and his ranks pretty
high on that list. I doubt his participation on usenet was ever much more
than just a chance for him to plug his 3rd rate hotel. When his true nature
as a jerk was revealed, he eventually realized he wasn't getting anywhere
with that and now he wants to try and justify his removal of participation
with childish antics.

I wonder how long he would stay in business if he denied access to his hotel
because he didn't like someone or didn't agree with their politics?
Personally I don't see how he stays in business anyway. The place is
obviously a 60-70's era motel in bad need of overhaul that he just hung a
few cheap aviation pictures on the walls and tries to bill it as a "themed
hotel". Of course, in Iowa City, it's probably considered a jewel.

The fact is you clogged this forum with every little change to your site.
I, for one, got very sick of your continous updates. Hopefully this will be
the last message about you and your site.

I'd say Jay's postings were in general more interesting and useful
than many of the others here. The digital last-word tantrums some
common (in every sense of the word) posters engage in are much worse.
If it's maxi or his aliases, you can count on it being stupid. Bertie
is a mixed bag -- his postings average to mediocre (old joke -- "she
said I was average, but she was just being mean") which I think is
his goal. Bertie's contributions are hardly in a normal distribution
-- really bipolar. Makes me think he might be, too.

Sorry you see things that way, Vaughn. I guess if you're happy with the
direction things have turned here, the new rec.aviation.piloting is for you.

I'll still check in, from time to time, in hopes that the kids who don't
play well with others have moved on to other playgrounds. These things tend
to be cyclical, and I suspect they'll move on, once they've grown tired of
scratching their own litterbox...

--------------------------------------

No, Bertie intends to moderate the newsgroup.

When someone has the balls to disagree with him, he intends to hound them
endlessly until the leave. That's what he is doing with Jay and I, and has
done in the past to Mx, Ken, LeChaud and others. And until the majority of
this group can get a grip on that, and grow the balls to deal with it, it
will continue.

Without Bertie, all the other trouble makers except Mx, are out of a job.
And compared to that damage Bertie has done, Mx is a piece of cake.

Isn't it obvious? Mr. Spam-o-Rama is fishing for suck buddies to tell him
what a great guy he is and beg him to keep his "gallery" spam site.

Not producing much for him, is it? Except for people telling him to FOAD,
that is.

Jay,Thanks for all you have done to advance aviation. We all do
little things that seem trivial but make a positive step forward. The
few who have altered this group are mentally unbalanced and it clearly
shows.. I have already moved over to POA.

There was nothing particularly clever about it, Okie. You either admitted

The one that no longer exists that you keep posting to, despite repeated

I am. A small number of sub-juvenile so-called adults have turned
rec.aviation.piloting into a kindergarten. I don't care how many
combined hours, experience or expertise a handful of folks here have or
claim to have; rec.aviation.piloting is the new alt.kooks.

Kinda sucks. This place used to be useful; now it's an abortion. Nobody
else here gives a damn whether you people ever get along. We want to
talk about aviation and flying, which is what the newsgroup used to be
about.

About half a dozen people here need to grow up. If you don't like
somebody, ignore them. That's what adults teach children to do. The
difference between all of this bull**** and spam is that at least
somebody, somewhere, is making money off of the spam.

Those of us who are leaving the newsgroup for more productive pastures
certainly won't be missed, because our names aren't Anthony. Best of
luck to you all.

If you're not capable of handling an unmoderated forum, then don't go to an
unmoderated forum in the first place. On most every NG there is quite often
those who wish to do little more than **** and moan about the NG itself.
What's really funny is the perennial ****ers and moaners are even less happy
on moderated forums because there's even less tolerance of their usual
****ing and moaning. One thing is for sure is that chronic complainers are
not happy unless they are complaining. Good luck on finding someone that
will tolerate your particular style of BS.

If you don't like the NG, then leave. Don't let the door hit you on the a$$
on the way out. But don't pretend you'll be missed and put on some
flamboyant production out of it, because you won't. Any contribution you
could have possibly made is certainly not worth the ****ing and moaning.

Start a thread, ignore the useless input, and be happy.

Why has everyone stopped discussing aviation?

Just ignore the kooks until they go away.

Just don't feed them.

Go look in the mirror, kookboi. When was the last time you posted ANYTHING
aviation related?

I'm not saying anyone particularly wants to hear about your 12 yr old, paper
airplane exploits, just that your post was so hypocritical it was completely
hilarious. But that's what I really like about you.
