Hi

Can anyone identify the precise locations of the following

Regards Martin Burney

ATC Gliding site at Merthyr Tydfil wartime, used by US or USAAF unit

Wookey, Wells, Somerset post war , may have been used by Bristol Gliding
Club circa 1948

Cocking , Midhurst, Sussex was a gliding location

Cocking must have been Cocking Down (which rings a bell from some of my
1930s gliding books). This is (from the map) a steep, largely
east-facing ridge with deep gulleys.

The south facing ridge to the north of Wookey Hole (which also has a
famous cave system) looks promising, though I have no recollection of
reading about it as a gliding site.

The best candidate for Merthyr Tydfil seems to be Rhigos Airfield, 8-10
miles west, and still a gliding site:

However, all this is from a few online searches, not personal knowledge.
