I'm not sure if you guys here are up on this here. But I've read here quite
a bit and witnessed some valuable knowledge, and some real idiots. I'll try
to sort through responses.

I am a private pilot ASEL and typically fly rented Cessnas and Pipers.
Airplane and fuel costs have gotten me to recently thinking about a gyro. Do
these fly under ultralight rules? I live in the Upland, CA area and mostly
fly out of KCCB. It is in an area of housing, a college but not too far away
uncongested foothills and mountains. Would I be able to fly in this type of
area?

Like airplanes, it depends on the gyro.

Have you looked at the LSA's?

Most burn in the neighborhood of 5 GPH.
