It looks like Red Flag is as much an intel-gathering exercise as it
is a combat exercise. :)

Interesting quote:

"He praised the F-22 as the next great dogfighter. But
he faulted the fact that it carries too few missiles and
contends that the on-board cannon could be a life-saver,"

In this conflict, guns are also proving useful for strafing.
I wonder if the Navy and USMC are beginning to regret
their decision to go gun-less on thier versions of JSF?

I know there's a podded gun in the works for JSF, but
that will use up space/weight that could be used for
other things (podded guns are generally less space-
efficient than built-in ones).

SUU23 on the F4D/E worked pretty good. 1100 rounds and you could do a
world of hurt with it.

According to:

http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0163.shtml

and

The gun on the JSF will be a 4-barreled version of the GAU-12/U
called the GAU-22/A. In it's podded form, it will be carried on a
dedicated centerline pylon between the aft portion of the weapons
bays.

I wonder what effect that will have on the aircraft's ability to drop
weapons from the bays?

Pilot's YouTube indiscretions could trigger wider air power debate

See:

I wonder if the guy in the video is going to suffer some damage to
his career because of this.
