Kestrel 17 Polar

I am curious as to why the Kestrel polar is not included in any of the
flight recorders/flight computers. I have one loaded into my SN-10 from
the polar data in the manual so it's not a burning issue, but I'm
feeling a bit left out!

BTW, I don't know how good it is, but my Cambridge will generate a
polar file if you enter some of the parameters. I'll e-mail you when
I'm home and can check the cambridge for what it wants to know.

Well, having the same problem, I thought about this, too - and I think I
have the answer :-).

The youngest of these ships are around 33 years old, only 129 of them
were built (and a few don't exist anymore). So, let's face it - we fly a
rare (yet tremendously beautiful) ship....

Hmmm, I would hardly call any plastic ships built in numbers over one
hundred "rare", although I completely agree the Kestrel IS
tremendously beautiful (at least the 17m Glasflugal version with the
removable rear canopy; I never acquired a taste for Slingsby's 19m
wing or the hinged canopy, although I'm sure the latter is at least
convenient...).

I can't see a reason why flt computer/recorder manufactures/designers
left out the Kestrel, other than perhaps it is neither at home in Std/
15m, 18m, Club or World Class. Although it can be flown in the Open
Class, it is really outclassed there so really only finds itself able
to effectively compete in US Sports Class in addition to pleasure and
record flying, but numberwise, certainly enough were manufactured to
justify stock polars on the computers and recorders were there not
other reasons. YO Dave, why no Kestrel polar on SN10?
