For Omarama New Zealand

To help "educate" our local AIr Traffic Control operators I would like
to generate something like the SEEYOU 2 dimensional playback which
would show maps and airspace with a gliders height and speed.

Any ideas. The plan would be to generate a CD which they could plug in
to their computer and play when I visit them to explain why we need
the airspace for gliding.

Thanks in advance.

There are different screen capture utilities. e.g. take a look at
http://www.techsmith.com/jing/default.asp. You'll may need to use
other utilites to edit/annotate the video and put it on a DVD-ROM. If
you point is to emphasize glider traffic it may be better to make sure
you show lots of images of static flight traces that fill the screen,
in addition to doing animation that show what individual gliders are
doing.

The other option is to just record the screen with a video camera.
With modern LCD screens this can actually work remarkably well. See
this thread http://www.naviter.si/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,238/topic,2981.0
and this impressive sample at http://vimeo.com/2697324

BTW SeeYou 2D view may well be the best for what you want. Another
option is Google Earth which can show better (actually stunningly
beautiful) geographic detail and it is usually possible to show the
airspace data in .kml/.kmz formats. Google Earth Pro (not the free
version) can output video files directly without messing around with
screen capture). This may be interesting in conjunction with the
flight simulator mode or utiltiies that fly along flight traces. Like
Tobias Wicht's great utility at http://ywtw.de/igcsimen.html

Another option is you can bundle together many flight traces, airspace
files etc. and actually give the bundled kmz file to the ATC folks and
let them fly around themselves in Google Earth (free software, no
SeeYou needed). Obviously if you have specific point to make it may be
better to control the presentation more. But depending on the message
you are after this could also be a very compelling way of doing
things.

CamStudio is an option for doing a screen capture.

http://camstudio.org/

it's free, but they'll happily take a donation if you're happy with it
