View Full Version : Sorry, Spruce and Jim Irwin

Larry Smith
October 8th 03, 03:06 PM
Jim, you and your company were quite courteous on a prop bolt exchange, so I
was gonna order some more mdse. And still hope to, even after this. This
morning I tried to order a Concorde battery for a friend's 172, and the
snappy lady in Griffin rejected the card, for curious reasons.

After a call to Desser (Memphis) the order is complete and the battery said
to be on its way. Same card too. There's only 20k in that account. That
ought to cover a $100 battery.

Jim's email is not rec.aviation.homebuilt. I gather
you don't really want him to read this or do something about it?

What's your credit card number and expiration date? I'll check into it.

Oh, Little Mooz, how sharper than a serpent's sting!

BTW, he'll read it. And besides, I'm going to continue buying from him
because when in the clutch he comes through. I used to buy custom-made
items from his company in Lake Havasu City. Excellent stuff and when there
was a problem, he fixed it. I wonder, though, why so many scrappy bitches
gravitate toward his store in Griffin, GA. Ron A. used to have a coven of
them working for him when he was there.

Maybe that'll change when the facility moves to Peachtree City, GA?

No, it's just another ass-wipe Larry Smith post. Guess he doesn't
know how to contact Aircraft Spruce in California. He thinks that if
he calls cross-country, he has to yell through a hose. Wonder how a
credit card can have 20k in it's account? If it's a debit card, not
everyone takes them, as any normal person with at least average
intelligence would know. I think he inhaled too much plastic
drill-dust when he drilled the wrong holes for his latches for his
*******/orphan plane. Why couldn't your friend order his own battery?
Are you the dominant butch when you play house? Really Larry, do you
possibly think that anyone gives a **** where you ordered a battery
from or that you screwed up the attempted purchase? At least you're
worth a few chuckles when you post your boring, inane ramblings.

Another possibility - he tried to use his friend's debit card, but the
shipping address didn't match the card holder's address. Any way you
slice it, the latchless one seems able to foul up the simplest purchase.
Even worse, there's a guy driving a 172 who needed service from
Latchless's Batteries and Whining Emporium. Yikes!

Even tho Latchless is a super stickler when he rates others

I've exchanged email with him before and talked by phone. Why bother him?
It will get back to him that he has a blabby halfwit taking a salary and
pi**ing away his company's goodwill in Georgia. Why are all you goonies
scampering out of your holes to screech? Spruce periodically catches hell
in this NG because, though it's a good solid company, it has a few duds from
time to time who are innate screwups.

I haven't seen one post yet from anyone who really knows what happened.
The pore ol' goat in Griffin didn't even try to process the card.

What are YOU worried about, Little Moozie? I'll have the battery tomorrow.

The question is, if someone has a problem with one of your employees, do you
prefer that the person bring up the issue with you, instead of posting it on
the newsgroup so that maybe, eventually, it would get back to you, after
everyone else read it?

Or maybe it's just that you prefer to be treated like you treat Irwin. Could
be, there are weird people everywhere, look who got elected governor of
Wackyfornia.

Sorry to post on this news group, I need to get an email to Larry
Smith, yet the email address below for him is not working. Thank you
for your understanding..

To: Larry Smith

Dear Larry,

We have been forwarded an email from the rec.aviation.homebuilt
(google groups) regarding a battery you tried to order earlier this
week. Our sales rep in GA has already emailed our office manager
yesterday giving us a "heads up" to expect your email.

When you provided the credit card number, our computer system
determined that this same card had been used by a different customer
in a previous order. It gave the name of that order as Warren
Hunnicut, although you said the name on the card was Rosalie McIntosh.
In situation where names do not match we ask the customer for the
billing address of the credit card to verify that it is the owner who
is using it. I do understand that you would not have the address if
you were using someone else's credit card, but requesting this
information is the only way we can insure that a credit card us not
used with out the cardholders authorization.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this caused. I am
sorry that you decided to order with a different supplier, as we do
appreciate your calling Aircraft Spruce. It the sales rep would have
had the opportunity to bring this to the manger for approval to ship,
we would have done so immediately. We appreciate your business and
hope that we have the opportunity to serve you in the future.

Regards,

Jim Irwin
President, Aircraft Spruce

I think you are off base. Jim Irwin tried to post an answer that was printed
here in this group (and THAT was off base as well) by email to a dead or phony
email account.

Were I in the same position, trying to rectify a situation with no good way of
contacting the guy, I'd have done the same thing.

posting to Irwin and ASS, I don't see a problem with him responding in the same

Oh Really..... So if a regular to this newsgroup like Latchless Larry
who is generally considered a moron themselves goes and posts a
negative comment about a specific business that's OK.

But if the owner of that business comes to this newsgroup and logically
explains what happened and apologizes for the inconvenience......
They are a moron for clearing the air about what really happened.

In other words you and everyone else can use this public forum
to spit on a bona fide business person who has millions of dollars
invested, many years of hard work invested, and I presume does
millions of dollars of business a year and they should just sit
there and take their lumps along with any ill will and do nothing
to clear the air.

With an attitude like yours Mr. Springer you ought to look in
a mirror before calling anyone a moron.

Well, Jim, these are two real people whose names should not have been used
or published in an internet NG without their permission, and if the asshole
woman in Griffin, whose name Jim Irwin did not divulge, btw, had listened to
me instead of interrupting repeatedly while I tried to explain, none of this
goofy flummery would have occurred. And now I'm not so sure I want to buy
from ACS, ever again.

In addition my e-mail address may not be working, but not because of
anything I have done. I am trying to find out what the problem is and in
the meantime I am getting plenty of goddamn spam in my mailbox. So get
your facts together before you open your mouth.

On the other hand, three cheers. The aircraft battery arrived today from
Desser Tire and Rubber Company in Memphis, TN.

Not exactly, goofy. Two dramatically different audiences. This one
includes anonymous kooks like you and a million others with diminished and

Maybe you'd like to discuss this face to face. You wouldn't, course.

Further to that point, had he used John Doe or any other name it would just
have given rise to it being a phoney story. The fact is that Irwin had the
full details of who was conning who with two or three different names and one
card. It really makes one wonder what was really going on. Then again,
Latchless does have an excellent record of dealing with various companies and
has repeatedly proven that he is a patient and thoughtful person.

Sorry Latchless, you asked for it and deserved it. You shouldn't have opened
the can of worms in a public forum before finding out from the souce or at
least making a resonable attempt to do so. Your past record of dealing with
companies that don't kiss ass is plenty of justification for the reply you got.
While posting of third party names in the reply was a little off base, I
suspect it was the only way to prove the point without your claiming a bunch of
bull.

Now any more names or personal attacks you want to throw my way, go ahead, it

Mr. Irwin has done this before only that time he posted much more
personal information. Mr. Wier you can think as you please I don't
care. I certainly don't agree with Latchless Larry most of the time
but Mr. Irwin should be taking the high road and not post peoples names
that are not involved with this garbage. Mr. Irwin basically called me a
liar in this newsgroup a few years ago tell I proved him wrong using his
own catalogue. I have had their phone people flat out lie to me about a
part I wanted, other times the price they told me on the phone was about
half of the price they charged me. I have no use for this company or its
personel. I live right in the middle of RV country and hear the same
stories over and over again from other builders.

RACE CARD?????

Where does children brainwashed into snitching on
family members to the Gestapo have an element of race?

Further, I could be Jewish....
just like Sammy Davis Jr, if I cared to.
Again, nothing to do with RACE, if that is what
you are alluding to.

I'm surprised that you CONTINUE to advocate destroying
folks by snitching them off to the government just because
you don't have the fortitude to do the dirty deed in the light
of day for yourself.

IMO...
For you to label Internet free speech ROAD RAGE is absurd and
your recommendation to quell it.... misguided, if not dangerous.

What you continue to suggest is NOT A GOOD IDEA.
No way should freedom loving people support it.

Yep, our clueless little zoomcuddling shill, and Irwin's incomplete facts
are mostly accurate, except he left out details of the WHOLE story, which is
that ACS had erroneous info keyed into its computers and never attempted to
process the card.

ACS, thy name is caveat emptor ---- let the buyer beware. The same card I
legitimately used and it worked glitchless at Desser. The purchase is
complete and satisfactory, and anytime I want to take on a glitchy or
devious homebuilder supplier here in RAH I will in a heartbeat.

BTW, while I'm thinking about it, the New Gasair/Gastar litigation mill
with Mickey (Mouse) Via squeaking away as usual quietly settled its lawsuit
with OMF and was very slick at hiding the details of the settlement. The
federal judge had slapped the plaintiff around at just about every stage of
the proceedings, repeatedly denying its wailing prayers for relief. In
other words, Mouse's plaintiff went in like a piggy and came out like a
sausage.

I think that Big John was right alluding to Road Rage in response to
Larchless' comment. Road Rage is, in my book, if I stop my car, jump
out and challenge you to come out too (and maybe take it farther from
there if you come out). Saying to someone, over the internet, come out
to meet me face to face is just the same. OK, so maybe it is not Road
Rage but Internet Rage. :-)

OTOH, referring to snitching in the same breath as the Nazis is a bit
far fetched. If snitching is so close to the Nazis that it runs
Goosebumps down your spine what would you say to the Snitch law that
is in force in every State, I think, and/or federally.

My comment above does not endorse or condem Latchless and his action
or Jim Irwin.

There are many posts.
As an untrained psychologist or psychiatrist....
Which posts do you specifically know to qualify as RAGE
and worthy of being forwarded to the FAA?

More far fetched, IMO, is Big John advising readers here to
turn each other in to the FAA for posts he deems should
target pilots for possible grounding.

What "Snitch law(s)"?
Again, please be specific and where it
applies to speech of RAH posters.

>My comment above does not endorse or condem Latchless and his action

So, unlike Big John, you would not have certain pilots here
be snitched on to the government and be subjected to having
their flying privileges revoked if Big Brother took a mind to?

Hmmmm....
Still, it may be a "good idea" to keep an eye on you, too. <g>

I put in an emergency call to Warren Buffet about this tragedy. He
suggested that you coulda' used your own card number (assuming you have
one), and had your buddy reimburse you. But he asked what kind of a
lugnut makes multiple phone calls and starts such a big ruckus over a
hundred bucks. He also said that Parker and Stone ought to write an

Was I ticked? Yeah. Did I challenge someone to a duel? Nope. Because

No, it ain't and it's particularly unsavory of this shady character who says
he flew P-51's, the aircraft which turned the tide against the fascist
Nazis, to solicit yahoos in this NG to petition the FAA for my ticket,
ANYBODY's ticket. He's a scumbag.

Utterly absurd. Quote such a snitch law even remotely similar. Snitch
laws are designed to protect people who expose violations of the public
trust. You aren't very bright, are you?

Am I supposed to have violated the public trust by raking one of Jim Irwin's

Maybe he should reveal his full name so it could be found if he really DID
fly P-51's for Uncle Sam or is just another blathering fake.

He was completely out of line when he started a fight with Bill Phillips.

Larry and others

The postings in question were in a public forum and seen by anyone who
'tuned in'. How can you describe it as snitching if they were
extracted from this public forum and brought to the attention of the
FAA? No comparison to the German program.

Since BOb brought up the Jews. In the WWII era about 7 million Jews
were lost. During the same time period, about 8 million Germans,
including women and children were lost. (Eisenhower museum stats)

As you may have surmised from my postings, I'm an Alpha Male and don't
suffer fools, especially in a public forum.

Please don't fly when your thought process is so disturbed. Not flying
may save your and others lives???

A: (As the agressors) the loss of both were the fault of the Germans.

REALLY?

Why then don't you just advocate that the FAA do their own dirty work
and monitor RAH for themselves instead of advocating that selected
behavior here be forwarded to them? Did BWB have your attitude

I wouldn't bet against his position since this is your SECOND FORAY

Whoa there, Spinmeister.
I didn't bring up the Jews or the Holocaust. YOU did.
I brought up that German kids were brainwashed into snitching on
family members to the Gestapo. Go back and review what I said
and what I took time to clarify for your earlier misunderstandings.
Your behavior sir, has parallels to those brainwashed munchkins.

Not sure what a Alpha Alpha Male is. Can't find it in any of my
litature, etc. Have never heard that experssion used to describe
anything while Alpha Male is a copmmon expression. Is it tied to the

I have jumped back to this posting prior to answering some of your and
others questions.

I mentioned "Race Card" talking about the Germans who were being
discussed. Not all Germans were Nazi's and supported the things Hitler
did. Not all Germans were 'bad guys'.

As you can read, YOU immediately jumped in and used the term "JEWS"
(not me).

Since YOU brought the JEWS into the thread, I then posted some data on
Jewish and German deaths in WWII era to show that they were not the
only group who suffered massive causalities in WWII.

Also, since I don't support what the individual in question advocates,
the passing of his 'rants' to authorities who might be able to take
appropriate action seems to me to be fully justified, since he appears
to be a danger to himself and others. As a American sworn to support
the Constitution and the Laws of the US, it is my duty, even though I
am in a Retired status and not on active duty to prevent threats of
physical harm to others to be ignored. My Retired status (and pay)
allows the government to recall me at any time to active duty if
needed.

For one who has traded hostile fire with the enemy I resent the
"Pussy's" who belittle my participation in armed combat for the US. If
you have not stood alone out there and been shot at, keep your mouth
shut about combat and those of us who guaranteed your right to mouth
off in RAH.

This thread got away OT from LL's posts and rants.

Since I don't agree with a lot being said on this thread I'm going to
'plonk' for awhile til things cool down and let people who have
nothing better to do with their time, jump in a cold shower to bring
sanity to the thread..

And the best to those who fly safe and sane.

Thank you Sir for your rational support.

If the individual in question would come to Texas and mouth off, there
are lots who would love to 'clean his clock'.

These are big 6' 6", 250 lb, individuals who crush beer cans with one

Huh? You guarantee my right to post in RAH? Then want my ticket pulled
for getting saucy? Laughable.

State your last name, your rank, branch, and unit. Otherwise , stfu.

The only real threats communicated here were the ones you made against Bill
Phillips and me. And he slapped you around and stuck his finger in your
eye. If you don't like my ticket, file your complaint, fascist ratfink.

Many of us here are building airplanes and we fly them too. You are here,
not because you are capable of building an aircraft, or of flying, but to
stick out your chest and say, "Oh, looky here at me and what a hero I am for
my country. I flew P-51's and blahblahblah!" Well that, in and of itself
is OK, I guess, as long as you are who you say you are (which I am beginning
to doubt), and as long as you are not in sympathy with the very tyranny you
say you fought against. Twice now you have belied yourself as a sort of
hypocrite. You remind me of the little whispering *******s spawned by Joe
McCarthy and his ilk. If tattling and snitching are favorite activities of
yours, don't you have the balls to do them yourself?

Just remember that the laws of libel and defamation still exist as a redress
against liars.

Today, after treating the battery box against corrosion, I installed that
Gill battery (which did not come from ACS, btw, in the 172, pulled on the
master and the switch and saw that it had plenty of juice to turn the prop.
Tomorrow we'll fire up the engine, and soon we'll fly the airplane. I'm
installing an aileron bellcrank stop in the left wing, which has not been
there since the early nineties, and replacing the broken window latch on the
pilot's side. Why don't you get your worthless ass out to the airport and
get some work done too. Or start on the tail of an RV-10.

And by the way, wtf is a "Physco exam"?

I guess I can call you anything I please according to your reasoning,
as i have been fired upon in Vietnam. Does that make me special? NO just
like it dose not mean anything about you either other than you are
living in the past and your whole life was lived by someone else telling

You might live in Texas but you would not get along well with people I

Um, Bob.....oriental now refers to a furniture or rug style or
designating the Orient. Per my American Heritage dictionary, "The
term Asian is now preferred for persons of South and East Asian
ancestry in place of the term Oriental, an older usage." I know we're
old, but we need to keep up with modern usage.

I agree that asking people to call the FAA after someone posting
something on/in the news groups is plain and simple dumm. I remember
somebody writing in the past that he will tell the FAA that people
flew at the flyin in Pinkneeville (SP) and as evidance all he had was
writings posted here. I was unhappy about it then as I was now when
Big John suggested it.

Well, I'm not a lawyer and I don't know the specifics but I was
refering to the law that protect snitchers from getting fired and the
other one (or was it the same law?) that give snitchers some money
reward (10%?) if they report some money waste or somthing like it.
Again I'm no lawyer, so please refer to one about the exact details.

Did you fear the foggy, wraithlike pixie I addressed with this hyperbole
might show himself for RL battle? You must live solitary. Know thyself.
Then thou shalt know people too.

Well, Yurin, I gotta admit I never knew the post that started all this would
lead to such a raucous thread. It even brought out the screamer --- that
foaming defendant from San Diego affectionately known as the eggsucker.

Meanwhile we cranked the Cessna yesterday with her proud new battery and her
newly majored engine, and she began to purr on the third blade. I stayed
around the airport last night to watch my young friend land in his
just-purchased Taylorcraft and wiggle the rudder to keep her tracking
straight down the runway. Ain't life grand! Hang out at the airport some.
That will acquaint you with people, Yurin.

C'mon, mutton-head....update us on your project. What stage is it in?
How soon is it going to fly? Is it true that you finally settled on
duct tape instead of real latches and your tires dry-rotted before you
got to use them? Why do you ignore questions that may embarrass you?
Don't you have the balls to give us an honest report? Or is all you
know how to do is post stupid **** like you did when you initiated
this thread? "Boo-hoo. Jim wouldn't send me a battery with my bogus
card." Even you would have to go back to it and admit how lame and
ignorant it was. By the way, did you mean "solitarily," you
illiterate ass-wipe?

And litter the side of the road with them, no doubt...

You must be reading and believing the "Liberal" press?

What they do is throw them into the back of their pickup.

If you haven't heard, one of the Texas rules of the road is "Don't
MESS with Texas". Instead of setting up Police road traps for
speeding, we just catch the transits littering our highways and stick
it to them.

Welcome to the real world young man.

Big 'Tex' John

N.B. For some reason my "Plonking" isn't working 100% of the time.
Seems to keep bringing this thread back up. Need to go back and reset
the parameters I guess.

Have a nice day.

Nope. I'm reading official state sources. What right-wing comic books are
you reading, though?

From the official site http://www.dontmesswithtexas.org/facts.php:

"More than half of roadside litter in Texas flies out of the back of pickup
trucks. Throwing lightweight objects in your truck bed is the same as
throwing them out the window."

Yeah, right. That explains why the Texas Department of Transportation
spends more than $30 million a year in state tax dollars picking up
roadside litter alone. Gotta be all those transients, I'm sure...

From a TxDOT press release dated July 22, 2003:

"The first-ever Don't Mess with Texas Road Tour is taking its truck full of
litter-related games and prizes through Laredo tomorrow to inform the
state's worst litterers - Texans ages 16-24 - about the consequences of
littering."

Damned transients...

Can't be the real world if *you're* welcoming me to it. Your grasp of
reality seems tenuous at best...
