Komet III wheel info

Does anyone know off hand what the wheel and tire specs are for a 1978
vintage Komet III trailer. I'd like to consider buying a pair of wheels
and tires before the trailer is picked up rather than spending the time
getting new tires put on after I get there.

Gary,

I don't believe that there is a common spec for the Komet (or Cobra)
trailer. I've seen quite a variety of Wheel on trailers. You need
to verify the exact hub on the trailer that you are concerned with.
The spec's you are interested in will be the bolt number and spacing
as well as the wheel offset. i.e. 5 x 100 et 32 Only then can you
acquire a set that will work with the trailer. I've found that a
number of on-line tire stores can be helpful to your needs. I've had
good luck with the Tirerack http://www.tirerack.com and Discount
Tire http://www.discounttiredirect.com. They will be able to
cross reference the specs for your trailer and in most cases provide
the wheel-tire combo you seek.

I went thru this exercise last week with a Duo-Discus trailer that was
passing thru. The "low mileage new" 8 year old tires expired on the
trip just outside of phoenix and destroyed the wheel (and Fender).
It turned out to be a VW Vanagen spec hub and wheel. Thanks to
Discount Tire a suitable replacement was found.. As a side note, one
of the custom wheel shops we stopped at knew quite a lot about
Gliders. The guy behind the counter asked what kind of a Sailplane
is in the trailer. Upon answering his question, he replied that his
Dad has a Discus and flies with the Chicago Glider club. It's a
small world as I have flown many contests with (against) his Dad!

Can't help much, but FYI, Toyota Tercel wheels ALMOST fit (AAAAARGH).
Lug spacing - check
Offset - check
Hole in the middle - 1/8" too small to fit over the bearing
protrusion on the hub. Darn!
