Around 1930z this morning Turkish Airlines flight TK1951
(Istanbul-Amsterdam) - a Boeing 737-800 built in 2002) crashed about a mile
short of the runway at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a few hundred yards from
the village of Badhoevedorp and a mere 100 yards from the A-9 motorway. 9 on
board died (3 of them in the cockpit), some 50 were seriously injured, often
critically. Surprisingly about 50 people walked away from the crash,
although some returned after a few minutes to help fellow passengers from
the wreckage. The aircraft impacted nearly vertically in a field, leaving a
trail of only 100-150 yds.
