Maybe I'm showing off a bit - I have made a really nice graphic front
end for the VH Register.

Screen capture attached.

I usually download the info in its .csv format, import into MS Excel,
then save the data range as Dbase IV .dbf

This all sounds a bit messy but the above takes no more than 5 minutes
(10 at most) to download + convert + add the data file.

A mate of mine said he wished it was possible to do the same thing with car
registrations... I reminded him of a little thing called "Road Rage" - he
agreed it might not be that good an idea after all. ;-)

On a similar note, I sometimes do the same with emails that have ****loads
of recipients in the Cc: field.


I once got one of those useless virus warnings from a supplier. The
dick put his whole address book in the To: field - including fax numbers for
his fax server.

It ****ed me off that I downloaded a 300k message (on dial-up no less), only
to find 5 lines of text about a virus that didn't exist. So I went
into the message source, copied the To: field addresses into Word, replaced
the commas with tabs and imported the whole mess into Excel. Within
5 minutes, I had his entire contact database, his Government contacts,
consultants, customers, my competitors, even a few prospects that he was
working on. There were dozens of people who shouldn't know about
each other - but were on the same list, it was priceless.


Apart from calling a few of his contacts, I emailed the list back to him and
suggested he use the Bcc: field.

I wonder why aircraft registrations are so freely available & car rego's
aren't?
(not advocating the release of car rego etc ..)

Aircraft details are a bit more intimate than cars.

I don't know. I would have thought in these days of hightened security
regarding aircraft of all types....

Any way, it's there and it's good to be able to trace an aircraft to the
source, including finding out what it is.
