If some of you didn't already know, Fred Lasor and Laurie Harden of
Soaring NV at Minden, Nevada are hosting a wave camp April 8-12. Each
morning a speaker will review a wave topic such as weather forecasting
(Doug Armstrong), wave flying procedures at Minden (Fred LaSor),
Sierra Wave Cross Country (me), Using Rotor to Climb into Wave (Rick
Walters), and Extreme Wave XC (Gordon Boettger). Thereafter every day
we'll fly. Fred has 2 Duos for dual flying, so you can bring your own
ship or fly his. I'm participating both to educate pilots on wave XC
and to kickstart this as a recurring annual event. For those of you
who weren't in soaring 30 years ago, the Minden wave camps were annual
events drawing 30-50 gliders.
This is an excellent chance to be with and learn from a number of
experienced wave pilots. Go to soaringnv.com for more details or call
them at 1 877 276 2768.

Besides the great speakers and world renowned soaring, Fred and Laurie are
planning this as a social event too, with BBQ get-togethers in the evening,
etc. So bring the family and make a vacation of it!

Is there any chance someone (oh, say, that Kempton fellow I've heard
about) might be making a HD (or even low def) video of the proceedings,
so that those of us that do their wave flying far, far, away (like
Richland, WA) from Minden can also enjoy and learn from them?
I had a nice wave flight yesterday; now I have to figure out why the IGC
file doesn't inculde the engine noise so the OLC witll score it!

We have someone coming from Hawaii, two from Oklahoma, one from
Florida, one from New York, and you're calling Washington a long way
away? Sheesh!

If I lived in Hawaii, Florida or Oklahoma, I'd be much more motivated to
go to Minden, but we already have good wave, mountain, and flatland
soaring here. So, yes, it is too far to go for a wave camp, even with a
promise of some good presentations. I'm saving my driving for later in
the year at places in BC, OR, CA, UT, and ID.
I will be in Minden for a few days on my way back from Parowan, but
that's in June.

Well we'll look forward to seeing you in June as you drive through.
Drop in for some coffee -- we make the best in the valley. Fred

I'd prefer fly in instead of drive, and drink coffee with you while my
wife brings the trailer. But after seeing how far it is, maybe I'd
better launch from somewhere closer than Parowan!
