That is Don "Beetle" Bailey's L-29.
Note the beetle insignia on the tail. Several years ago, some friends
and I purchased some stick-on dots in bright colors and put them on the
tail Beetle. Don didn't see them until several flights after we made
"ladybugs" of his Beetles.
He also flies a Zlin 242 and led "Beetle Flight" on our Saturday AM
breakfasts. One day at TIX, he called the tower with "Beetle Flight at
Dunn, overhead break."
Twr: "Is that Eagle Flight?"
I keyed my mike, as I was turning final and said, "No, that is Beetle
Flight, like a potato bug."
When Don's flight called to leave, Tower asked if he was part of that
"potato bug" bunch.
