From 1965, Thunderball, with Connery as Bond on the pontoon and Rick
Van Nutterr as Felix Leiter in the cockpit.
Frogdog has left the building.

Cec Linder was a much better Felix Leiter.

Oddly enough Van Nutter was American but Cec Linder wasn't.
Cec was a Polish-born Canadian citizen who made a good living playing
Americans in British films -- with he wasn't doing bits and pieces on TV.

He had the dry wit that the Bond novels
showed him exhibiting.

In 1974 on a Junior NCO course, I saw Cec Linder playing a corporal nattily
turned out in bush dress in a film on instructional technique and thought,
"Wait a minute, that's Felix from the James Bond movies!" and got nothing more
out of the class.

Cec had probably read the novels. I never got the impression that any of
the other 7 actors who played Felix Leiter had read anything more than their
own sections of the filmscript.

Evidently you enjoyed far more recent training films than I had to endure in
the 1950s. We were given plenty of tips on how to fight WW2.

Well, bush dress went out in 1964 with the introduction of the combat uniform.
I think the film was made in the mid-50s, 'round about the time I was born. I
suspect we were both trained using lessons from previous wars; in your case,
the Second War, in mine, Korea.
